Business Excellence Awards Application

Eligibility: All nominees must be a Chamber member to qualify. Companies are allowed to nominate any qualifying business or individual in the Chamber including themselves and their employees.

The 2017 Business Excellence Awards will take place Thursday, November 16 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lost Spur Golf & Event Center in Eagan. There will be a reception followed by dinner and the awards ceremony. The top three finalists in each category will be announced in early October with the exception of the Legacy Award. The Legacy Award winner will be announced in advance of the event. The winners of all other categories will be announced at the event on November 16.

If you would like to nominate the same business or business leader for more than one category, a separate nomination form will need to be completed for each category.

Only one nomination per person, per category is needed. Please complete the information below and submit by Friday, September 8th, 2017.

Award Categories:

Business Excellence Award

Company which over the past year has experience tremendous growth, launched major product innovation or grew as a leader within their industry or marketplace.

Criteria: Nominees must be in business for minimum of 10 years and should exhibit success in a variety of ways. Examples include demonstrated job growth, ability to retain talent, taken and prevailed risks, recognized as a leader in their industry or marketplace and expanded, or consecutive, periods of financial growth.


Community Leadership Award

Company demonstrating ongoing commitment to the well-being and vitality of Dakota County through exceptional workplace giving and community volunteerism, strong employee health and wellness programs and/or staff engagement on Dakota County non-profit boards and committees.

Criteria: Business must be for profit (non-profits not eligible) and should demonstrate a commitment to the community and their employees. Examples might include employee volunteerism or a partnership with a non-profit organization.


Small Business of the Year

Recognizing small companies who are making a BIG difference in their field, through customer service or innovation.

Criteria: Business must be for profit (non-profits not eligible), have fewer than 50 employees and have been in business for at least 3 years. Nominees should have proven growth strategies and outcomes as well as the ability to retain talent and foster growth within their workforce. They must also demonstrate engagement in their community.


Women/Minority Owned Business Award

Companies making an economic impact in Dakota County which are women/minority owned.

Criteria: Business must be for profit (non-profits not eligible) and must be owned by a woman or minority. Nominees will be considered based on how they are recognized as a leader in their industry and among peers, means by which they support and encourage the growth of their workforce and demonstrate the ability to take and overcome risks.


Nonprofit of the Year Award

Nonprofit organization which made a notable impact on the quality of life for those who live and work in Dakota County.

Criteria: Nominees will be considered based on the types of direct services provided, how many individuals they impact and in what ways, creativity in delivery of services, successful development and donor recruitment efforts and strategies that guarantee the organizations stability and sustainability.


Emerging Leaders Award

This will be awarded to one individual. Individual must be under 40 years of age. Individual should be recognized as an up and coming leader in their industry and among peers. Individual should demonstrate a commitment to their industry as well as their community. Individual must have a proven strategy for taking and overcoming risks.

Criteria: Professional under the age of 40 making a difference and leading Dakota County’s next generation of leadership by example.


Legacy Award

For a dedicated business professional based in Dakota County who has made a lasting impact on their company and the economic vitality of Dakota County through their leadership, mentorship and business acumen.

Criteria: This will be awarded to one individual. For a dedicated business professional with more than 20 years of career experience. Individual should be recognized as a leader in their industry and among peers. Individual should demonstrate a commitment to their industry as well as their community. Individual must have a proven strategy for taking and overcoming risks.
